MALADO FRANCINE

Malado Francine (b. Malado Francine Baldwin-Tejeda, Portland,OR) is an American multi-media artist based in Los Angeles, California. She is a recipient of the 2023 Mercedes Matter Award for painting, a 2022 Pollock Krasner Foundation grant, and a founding member of the Association of Hysteric Curators. Her early film work was acquired as a part of Miranda July’s feminist film archive Joanie4Jackie at the J. Paul Getty Research Institute and Bard College. She received a BA in comparative literature with film and fine art from Swarthmore College, and an MFA in painting from the New YorkStudio School.

Malado’s paintings reference the spark or meeting point between the archeological past and the imagined technological future— an attempt to generate a feeling of — “deep time” ... Hybrid creatures, talismanic inventions, and artifacts re-considered in vibrant color— themes include the ancient reconfigured as newly totemic, and the digital age as future artifact.
