I make pictures that feel glamorous yet broken. Mining found photography, I explore the visual language of display and desire. From my archive, I select images that speak to beliefs about what is natural and valuable, familiar pictures that appear at first glance to be unambiguous. I reprint the found imagery, manipulating scale and focus to arrive at altered images of fictional objects and fantastic unreal spaces. Many of the works combine just two images, one photograph cut out to become a window onto another, confusing figure and ground, science with the natural world, portraiture and still lives. Taking images apart, I distort and reposition them to divert messages about class, nature and desire. The work invites viewers to question the assumed truth of photographic imagery and to create their reading of loaded photographic symbols.
